The Hollies were named as a tribute to Buddy Holly. The Air That I Breathe was a hit in 1974 and was the band's last chart topper reaching # 2 in both the Uk and Australia and top 10 in America It includes a string and horn orchestral arrangeemnt.

 In 1992 Radiohead released Creep which a court found had a similar melodic progression and the publishers of The Air That I Breathe sued successfully and received an undislosed sum.

Covers included a hit for Simply Red in 1998 and a slow version by KD Lang in 1997
