At the time of recording, the massive album Rumours John Mcvie and Christine Mcvie were in the midst of divorcing. Christine had begun a relationship with the lighting technician Curry and wrote this song about the relationship. Drummer Mick Fleetwood once said that John may have thought the song was written about one of Christine's dogs. In 1977 Cyndi Lauper was attempting to perform cover songs of the stars of the day and You Make Lovin Fun was the first song she recorded.
