This song was said to be the glue that kept the band together during several volatile times making the 1977 Rumours album, when it was played the band paused to recall what love and memories they shared. Christine Mcvie said wrote the song in around 30 minutes at around 3.30am and when she woke later that morning she urged the album’s co producer Ken Callat to capture the tune, melody and lyrics that seemed to have come to Mcvie in her sleep.
Parts of the studio were unavailable so they went to the Zellerbach Auditorium nearby, which had a full orchestral pit and nine foot Steinway piano. Caillat had a bouquet of roses placed on the piano and they were illuminated by 3 coloured spotlights.
Mcvie played the song with no other instruments or band members, the session took a long time and the final take was recorded using 15 microphones. Mcvie had to complete the song as she would in a live show, in one take.
