Released in 1971 as a single in the USA but not in the UK Peace Train was a top 10 hit in the USA. It was a relentlessly hopeful song of peace and became a hippie anthem.
However, Cat Steven's became Yusuf Islam in 1977 and fell off the Peace Train when he supported the Islamic death wish on author Salman Rushdie and it was a controversy he never really recovered from.
